Some kid-friendly places stay open almost all year round so it doesn’t matter when you come to visit Barcelona…there is always something to do.
THE AQUARIUM
Not just for the fishes! The Barcelona aquarium offers an array of activities geared specifically towards children. Among them are guided tours, the ability to immerse yourself in a tank of sharks and just recently they had a exposition of the “behind the scenes” of the aquarium. Their current exhibit is all about shells and they have various shapes and sizes of shells on display with detailed explanations. The aquarium is constantly adding new and fun activities to their already cool sea life exhibits. Check it out.
THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN THEME PARK IN TIBIDABO
Rollercoaster rides, ferris wheels, merry go rounds, all thousands of stories above the beautiful city of Barcelona? Believe it. On top of Tibidabo lays a secret treasure overlooking the city of Barcelona. It just happens to be the oldest theme park in Barcelona dating back to 1899 and has close to 30 attractions. If the theme park isn’t enough to get you up to the top of the mountain, the view will. It is definitely worth taking a trip to if you want great panoramic shots of the city.
Open from 12-10 p.m. (22:00)
Plaza Tibidabo, 3 08035 BARCELONA
District: Sarria-sant Gervasi
Zone: Vallvidr. -les Planes
WATERPARKS
It is summer, it is hot and your family is itching to go out and DO somthing. Because of the great Barcelona weather, there are various waterparks to choose from, most of them just outside the city so that you have a full day out of the apartment to pass time in the water and to work on your tan as a family. Each name listed here has a link to its own website.Take a look and see which one is most appropriate for your vacation!
Marineland, Aquabrava, Aquadíver, Aquapark, Aquópolis, Illa Fantasia, Waterworld.
THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF BARCELONA
Open April through October on Monday- Friday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00p.m. This garden takes a distinct philosophy from so many other botanical gardens. Instead of presenting exotic and rare species of plants, the Botanic Gardens of Barcelona takes you on a journey through the plant life seen in the mediterranean climates starting from the northern region, where the mediterranean basin is the most represented, then you continue on the route until the Mediteranean climates of Californian coasts. Later on the route, you encounter the southern hemisphere: the mediterranean region of Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean regions of the south of Australia. What the Botanic Gardens of Barcelona is trying to do is imitate nature and represent the natrual ecosystems found along the mediterranean. In this way they try to find an equilibirum between the earth, animals, the plants and the climate. Located on the beautiful mountain of Monjuïc between the Olympic stadium and the castle, on a clear day you can see into the next city.

MAGIC FOUNTAIN IN MONTJUÏC
Always a good choice to pass the late afternoon with the family. It’s even better if you had a chance to explore Montjuïc a bit and the museum so you can basically spend the whole day in this area without having to worry about transportation. There is nothing like water, music and mood lighting to set the scene right before bedtime with the little ones.
Open: Thursday-Sunday from 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm
Music Sessions: 9:30 PM 10:00 PM 10:30 PM 11:00 PM
THE BARCELONA ZOO
Since my family and I have made ourselves memeber of the zoo, we tend to go often. Its a great way to pass the day so that everyone is happy and entertained. Some things that I know that my two year old loves is the petty zoo called “La Granja” where the children can enter into the pen with the goats and there are horses etc. with the caregivers of the zoo keeping a vigilant eye. Also, all through the zoo there are various play areas. Also, there is a fantastic and educative dolphin show. Although it is all in Spanish it is still worth watching to see the dolphins jumping about.
